Testarossa

Frank & Matt Studio Auto presents this 1986 Ferrari Testarossa, chassis #63009, an early European-market example built in Maranello in May 1986 and finished in the quintessential combination of Rosso Corsa FER 300/6 over Nero. Introduced at the 1984 Paris Motor Show as the successor to the 512 BBi, the Testarossa became one of Ferrari’s most recognizable designs. Its dramatic Pininfarina bodywork, signature side strakes and exceptionally wide rear track were as functional as they were distinctive, directing air toward the side-mounted radiators while eliminating the need for the Boxer’s front-mounted cooling system. Power comes from Ferrari’s 4.9-litre naturally aspirated flat-12, featuring four valves per cylinder and paired with a five-speed manual transaxle driving the rear wheels. European-specification cars were rated at approximately 390 horsepower, giving the Testarossa performance that firmly placed it among the defining supercars of its era. Chassis #63009 retains its Ferrari chassis stamping, factory identification plate and Glasurit Rosso Corsa paint label. Following its completion in Maranello, the car was imported to the United States through Bavarian Motors Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio, and its American compliance plate remains present, identifying the Testarossa and its May 1986 build date. The car subsequently made its way to Quebec, where it formed part of a private collection of significant sports and performance automobiles. In 2019, #63009 underwent an extensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration documented through a comprehensive photographic archive. The engine and transmission assembly was removed from the car, with work performed on the flat-12, timing system, camshafts, intake and injection systems, while the transaxle was also opened during the process. The restoration extended to the rear subframe, suspension, Koni dampers, hubs, braking system, exhaust, cooling system and numerous engine-bay components. The interior was also extensively disassembled as part of the work. Today, the car retains several important elements of its original European configuration, including its metric instrumentation, Nero interior, Ferrari identification plates and Rosso Corsa specification. A set of four original Ferrari wheels is also retained separately with the car. With its early 1986 production date, European specification, identifiable transatlantic history, Quebec provenance and exceptionally well-documented restoration, chassis #63009 offers a particularly interesting example of one of Ferrari’s most celebrated twelve-cylinder automobiles.
